Caribbean Beachgoers Leave Stoves Behind

Primary school students and area residents filled approximately 300 bags of litter from the La Guayra community beaches in Colon on Panama’s Caribbean Coast.

Just across the water from Isla Grande and within the Portobelo National Park, La Guayra is a small beach community, popular with weekend beachgoers and litterers for its grey-white sand beaches and clear waters.

Portobelo’s Municipality urged both residents and weekenders to avoid throwing their trash on the beaches and contaminating the sea.

Among the trash items were stoves, home accessories and clothes, La Prensa reports.

That’s the one problem with the beaches on the Caribbean! People throw whatever trash they conjure up and throw it into the beautiful crystal clear waters! I love that kids are learning the importance of the environment. Kudos to whoever put this together!
