New Convent Coin in Circulation

There is a new coin in town that features Panama Viejo’s historic Convent of the Monks.

Banco Nacional put the 50-cent piece into circulation on Monday, and in celebration, Panama Viejo’s Board exhibited National Bank President Carlos Henriquez’s money collection.

The Panamanian government approved the coining of $3 million worth of the commemorative 50-cent pieces in November 2009.

If the math is correct, that is 1.5 million new coins.

The math is correct, and that’s a lot of coins.
