President Ricardo Martinelli announced a project to move Marcus A. Gelabert airport from Albrook to Howard.

The domestic airport would make way for the second phase of Government City. Construction on the first phase began in Curundu near the Transport Terminal.

Marcus A. Gelabert airport was last moved from Paitilla to Albrook in 1999 at a cost of $14 million to allow for the construction of the Southern Corridor. Plans to move the installations to Howard were also proposed under Mireya Moscoso’s administration but were met by an airport personnel strike.
