Panama Murder Rate Down

Although gory murder photos continue to splash the front pages of local tabloids, official figures suggest a reduction in Panama’s homicide rate compared to last year.

According to the Ministry of Security, murders have dropped by 21.4% during comparable January to September periods – from 468 in 2014 to 368 in 2015.

The most serious drop was registered in the city of Colon as a result of the gang member rehabilitation program.
