Race for Water, the world’s first solar-hydrogen-kite-powered boat, is awaiting transit through the Panama Canal.
Launched by the Swiss foundation of the same name, the vessel’s mission is to promote innovative solutions that give an economic value to plastic waste and prevent the plastic pollution of the world’s waterways.
Race for Water began a five-year odyssey on April 9, 2017 and arrived to the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal on February 9. It expects to transit on or around February 14 once formalities are complete and anchor at Fort Amador until February 28 before setting course for Peru.
In Panama City, the foundation will partner with the SUEZ Group to raise awareness about ocean preservation and plastics pollution through a program entitled “Recycled waste, clean oceans” from February 22 to 25.
